Milburn Primary school win the Design a Mascot competition for the 2013 World Police and Fire Games .

The creative kids from Millburn Primary School in Coleraine, have designed the official Mascot for the 2013 World Police & Fire Games (WPFG), which will be held in Northern Ireland.  Their winning creation ‘Emergency Eddie’ - who embodies different elements of the emergency services, was unveiled today (Tuesday 28 June) and brought to life at a special event held in the Primary School. 

 

A Schools competition was held to design the Mascot for the 2013 Games. WPFG corporate partner Northern Bank brought Cahoots NI on board to help bring the design of the mascot to life through a performance and illustration workshop. A judging panel headed up by Dame Mary Peters, Patron of the 2013 World Police & Fire Games, chose Millburn’s ‘Emergency Eddie’ as the winning design. 

 

 

Dame Mary Peters, Patron of the 2013 World Police & Fire Games said –“Congratulations to all the pupils from Millburn Primary School on winning this important competition and for bringing to life ‘Emergency Eddie’. 

 

 “ ‘Emergency Eddie’s’ next stop will be New York for the 2011 World Police & Fire Games this August, when the Games will be officially handed over to Northern Ireland for 2013.

 

“The pupils at Millburn Primary School should be extremely proud of their creation as ’Emergency Eddie’ will become the symbol for our Games here in Northern Ireland and will be seen by thousands of competitors and spectators from around the world in the build up to and during the Games in 2013.”

“Local community participation and involvement is always important to Northern Bank and we were delighted to bring our partners from the award-winning Cahoots theatre company on board to work with so many very enthusiastic and imaginative children across Northern Ireland.  The children from Millburn Primary School can be very proud of their fantastic creation. Emergency Eddie is a great mascot for the Games and a character who will become familiar to many thousands of people in the next stage of the journey towards 2013.  Congratulations to all of those schools that took part and we hope that children across Northern Ireland will look forward to meeting and getting to know Emergency Eddie’.”

The World Police & Fire Games is a global sporting event and up to 10,000 competitors plus spectators are expected when Northern Ireland hosts the Games in 2013.  Firefighters, Police Officers, Prison Officers and Customs Officials are eligible to compete in over 65 sporting events.  This event will showcase all that is positive about Northern Ireland and the Mascot will become a symbol of the Games.
