What This Means For N.I.

The World Police & Fire Games is a hugely exciting opportunity for both Belfast and Northern Ireland to profile our country on the international stage by welcoming thousands of international visitors to these shores.  The WPFG event is a larger participation sporting event than the Commonwealth Games, bringing an estimated 15,000 - 20,000 uniformed-services competitors and family members to Northern Ireland from more than 70 countries worldwide for the duration of the Games.  In all the competitors will participate in more than 60 sports (individual and team) that will showcase sporting excellence, health and well-being in a festival atmosphere throughout, kicking off with an impressive Opening Ceremony.

There are tremendous opportunities for community participation and involvement in this event; including:

- community welcome events at locations where sports will take place (both in Belfast and across Northern Ireland)

- schools "adopting" a visiting country

- promotion of health & well-being

- cultural & educational events
